There is a reason we instinctively pause when we see the ocean perfectly still.
The water becomes a mirror.
The sky stretches across its surface. Clouds drift in two worlds at once. The horizon seems to disappear, and for a fleeting moment, it becomes difficult to tell where the sea ends and the heavens begin.
Perhaps that is why the ocean has always invited us inward.
Unlike the mirrors we pass every morning, the ocean doesn’t reflect our appearance. It reflects something far more meaningful. It mirrors our pace, our thoughts, and sometimes even the emotions we’ve been carrying without realizing it.
When our minds are hurried, we often overlook its beauty. We rush past the shells, the rhythm of the waves, and the gentle breeze moving through the dunes.
But when we slow down, the ocean seems to change.
In truth, it is we who have changed.
The sea has simply been waiting.
There is something deeply healing about standing at the shoreline and watching your reflection shimmer across the wet sand after the tide has receded. The image is never perfectly still. It moves, softens, and gently fades with each wave, reminding us that life itself is never meant to remain unchanged.
The worries we carry today may feel permanent.
Yet the tide quietly reminds us that everything moves.
Everything shifts.
Everything returns to the sea.
Perhaps wellness is not about finding a life without storms. Perhaps it is learning to become like the shoreline—strong enough to welcome each wave, knowing it will eventually retreat.
The next time you visit the coast, take a moment to look beyond the horizon.
Look down.
Notice your reflection in the wet sand.
Watch the clouds mirrored beneath your feet.
Allow yourself to become still enough to see not only the beauty of the ocean, but the quiet strength within yourself.
Sometimes the greatest mirror isn’t hanging on a wall.
Sometimes it’s waiting where the tide kisses the shore.
And if you listen closely, you may discover that the ocean isn’t showing you who you are.
It’s gently reminding you who you’ve been all along.
Love, M
