There is something about walking along the shoreline that quietly changes us.

Perhaps itโ€™s the rhythm of the waves meeting the sand, the salty breeze drifting across the water, or the simple act of slowing down long enough to notice the world around us. Whatever it is, the coast has a way of asking us to breathe a little deeper and let go of the hurry we carried there.

When I walk the beach, Iโ€™m never in a rush.

Sometimes Iโ€™ll spend an hour wandering without finding anything I decide to bring home. Other days, a single clam shell resting at the waterโ€™s edge is enough to make me stop. It isnโ€™t always the largest shell or the most perfect one. In fact, itโ€™s often the little imperfections that make it beautiful. Every curve, every ridge, and every weathered edge tells a story written by the Atlantic over months or even years.

The shoreline reminds us that beauty isnโ€™t manufacturedโ€”it is shaped by time, patience, wind, and water.

Some walks are filled with laughter. Others are quiet and reflective. The beach has a remarkable way of meeting us wherever we are. It asks nothing from us except that we look up, listen, and notice the small details we often miss in everyday life.

Iโ€™ve learned that collecting shells is about much more than bringing home something beautiful. Itโ€™s about preserving a memoryโ€”a peaceful morning, a changing tide, a sunrise over the water, or the feeling of sand beneath your feet.

Those moments stay with us long after weโ€™ve left the beach.

Some of the shells I discover eventually find a place in my studio, where they become part of a piece of artwork. Each one carries a little of the shoreline with it, reminding me that the most meaningful treasures are often the simplest ones.

Whether youโ€™re strolling along the beaches of Long Island, exploring the rocky shores of New England, or simply dreaming of your next visit to the coast, I hope you take a moment to slow down, breathe in the salty air, and enjoy the quiet magic waiting at the waterโ€™s edge.

Because sometimes the greatest treasure youโ€™ll find isnโ€™t a shell at all.

Itโ€™s the peace you discover while searching for one.
